New twist: MAA Elections may not happen this year..?

The Movie Artists Association (MAA) elections are now grabbing everyone’s attention as the election affair is taking a new twist with each passing day.

According to the tradition that has been going on in ‘MAA’ till now, elections are being held approximately once in two years. The polls were scheduled for March this year. But no one cared about them because of the lockdown.

Actor Prakash Raj wrote a letter to MAA president in April asking when the elections would be held. The MAA working group replied that the elections could be held in September, as per a resolution passed in 2019.

But the latest developments hint that the election may not happen in near future. As per the statement of the legal advisor, “According to the TS Societies Registration Act 2001, a working board can be elected for a maximum period of six years. “

As per the bylaws of MAA, there is no rule that the elected team should get discontinued and go for polls after ending the tenure of two years. As per the provision, the sitting President can continue for six years.

As per the 28-year-tradition, a new board will be formed only after the polls are held. Until then, the current board will have full powers.

Also, the resolution, which was passed in the Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) in 2019, may not be valid as it was made without the interference of the Executive Committee. Clarity on the polls will come only after the Executive Committee meets to take a call on the issue.
