One politician who is sure to get elevated in the Congress Party under new PCC chief Revanth Reddy is Mulug MLA Seetakka aka Anasuya Devi. Her proximity to Revanth Reddy was all too visible when she accompanied him in his rally from Peddamma temple to Gandhibhavan on the day of his taking charge as PCC chief.
According to Gandhi Bhavan sources, Revanth has reportedly asked her to take the responsibility of handling the whole of the coal belt. She will be given the responsibility of coordinating the elections to the coal belt. If and when it happens, she will find herself pitted against Kalwakuntla Kavitha, who has been entrusted with the responsibility of winning the coal belt trade union election. Even if she wins or loses, Sitakka will get huge media coverage and will catapult herself to the top.
If sources are to be believed, she will be given the post of the honorary president of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) for the Telangana state. She will now tour places like Mandamarri, Bhupalpalli, Illendu, Kothagudem, Manuguru, Godavarikhani, Chennur and other places. Interestingly, Sitakka has wide contacts in these areas in her earlier avatar as an underground activist of the outlawed Maoist Party.
In fact, the Congress did very well in the coal belt in the 2018 assembly elections winning Bhupalpally, Bhadrachalam, Illendu, Kothagudem and Pinapaka I the coal belt area. Unfortunately, all the winning MLAs have defected to the TRS. Thus, Sitakka will try to exploit the anti-TRS sentiment, which is already there in these areas. She will go to the voters, especially those working in the coal belt and ask them to teach a lesson to the turncoats.
Coal belt employees too are unhappy with the TRS, which has won the last elections. They feel that the elected TRS leaders did nothing for the welfare of the employees during their current term. The employees are angry and opposition is building up for the TRS. Sitakka is seeking to exploit this anger and ensure an INTUC victory. If she manages to ensure a victory, her position in the party will become very strong. Let’s wait and see how things unfold for her.
