On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day today, Supreme Court Justice, and the Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana, hoisted the national flag at the flag hoisting ceremony hosted by the Supreme Court Bar and Bench council. After the ceremony, he said that it is sad that proper discussion on any bills that are being passed, is not being done in the parliament.
Ramana said that he still distinctly remembers the discussion that was held in the parliament before passing the Industrial Disputes Act, by CPM leader Ramamurthy of Tamil Nadu. He said that these discussions were crucial for the judiciary to understand the necessity of these bills, and in making their own judgements and coming to their own conclusions about these bills.
Great displeasure has been expressed over the passing of 22 bills in the parliament, in recent times, without proper discussion. These bills include the OB Reservation bill which was revised in the constitution, and the Tax laws bills, along with the General Insurance police.
