YS Sharmila, who launched her party in Telangana officially, in July, has taken several steps similarly to her brother, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy when it comes to politics. From the similar party names to similar party flag colours, Sharmila’s party has some uncanny similarities with her brother’s party in Andhra Pradesh.
Now, Sharmila has taken another step that is eerily similar to the functioning of Jagan’s party. Jagan used to announce his candidates for the various assembly constituencies in AP, while he was on a Padayatra in AP. Now, Sharmila, who is touring Tungaturti, announced performer Epuri Somanna as her candidate for the constituency. Jagan did a similar gig when he announced Sridevi as his MLA candidate for Pathikonda while touring the place.
Somanna has been a part of several parties in the past and is most prominently known as a performer, rather than as a politician. After the resignation of Indira Shobhan, it was speculated that Somanna would also resign from the party, as he was reportedly dissatisfied by the way the party was functioning. This is said to be the main reason why Sharmila announced his name as one of her candidates. While Sharmila is trying to appease those who are dissatisfied, some are of the opinion that she’s taking the wrong step by trying to placate those who may not be crucial to her in the long run.
