Congress perhaps is the only political party that goes without a permanent president. The working committee of party is all set to meet on October 16 to choose its new president. Interestingly, the meeting will choose Rahul Gandhi as its president. The president was to be elected in June but the election had to be postponed due to the Covid lockdown.
The party is meeting at a time when it is at its weakest. Most states in the country have slipped out of the Congress hands and the regional parties are growing at the Congress Party’s expense. Several senior leaders have left the party during the recent months. There is growing dissent within the party over the way the affaris are being conducted.
If sources are to be believed, the Congress party is all set to move towards an era of dual leadership. It is likely that both Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Vadra are likely to jointly lead the party. While Rahul will be elected president, Priyanka Vadra would be the working president. Their mother Sonia Gandhi will guide he party.
The party is also going to discuss the upcoming elections to Goa, UP, Punjab, Manipur and other states. The party will prepare the strategy for the elections. Sources say that a strategy would also be worked out for the 2024 elections.
