After Facing Heat, Fabindia Removes Tweet On Diwali Collection

Indian chain store retailing garments Fabindia had announced its collection for one of the major Hindu festivals Diwali. In the picture shared by Fabindia, models can be seen donning ethnic wear. However, the company had faced the wrath of the netizens and the BJP leaders over the name of the clothing collection.

The clothing brand headquartered in the national capital Delhi had named the festival clothing Jashn-e-Riwaaz’. However, this did not go well with the BJpo and netizens for using a non-Hindu name for the Hindu festivals. BJP Lok Sabha member Tejasvi Yadav also joined the netizens.

Lok Sabha member, BJP Yuva Morcha President Tejasvi Surya had termed the ad as an attempt to abrahamise the Hindu festivals. He also found fault with the ad as the models did not wear Hindu attires. The BJP leader also said that for such mistakes, brands like Fabindia should face the costs.

“Deepavali is not Jash-e-Riwaaz. This deliberate attempt of abrahamisation of Hindu festivals, depicting models without traditional Hindu attires, must be called out. And brands like @FabindiaNews must face economic costs for such deliberate misadventures,” Tejasvi Surya tweeted.

Netizens were also not happy with the ad brought by Fabindia to announce its new collection for Diwali. They asked why the collection was not named as per the festival traditions for a Hindu festival. They are demanding a boycott of the brand citing that the brand had disrespected the Hindu festival.

However, a few netizens have supported the brand saying that it has done nothing wrong and asked if it is wrong to give an Urdu name for the festive collection. They made a few tweets standing in solidarity with the clothing brand.

As the Hashtag #BoycottFabindia became trending on social media, the clothing brand took a back step and deleted the tweet it made while announcing the arrival of the clothing brand.

“As we welcome the festival of love and light, Jashn-e-Riwaaz by Fabindia is a collection that beautifully pays homage to Indian culture,” the clothing brand’s tweet reads. The tweet was made on October 9. However, the tweet was deleted now.
