Who among Chandrababu Naidu and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is a better communicator? Well! The Pattabhi episode and its aftermath have shown beyond any speck of doubt that YS Jagan has a better set of advisors and that he is definitely a better communicator among the two arch-rivals.
It appeared that Chandrababu fretted and fumed, raved and ranted on the attacks on the TDP offices in the wake of party spokesperson Pattabhi’s obnoxious comments. But even after Pattabhi’s abominable diatribe, Jagan waited for a full day before speaking about it. Not only that, he was very measured and spoke in very controlled tone that exhibited all his pain at his his mother being abused. Not only that, he paused before uttering the Telugu cuss word that Pattabhi repeatedly and deliberately uttered many times.
Then in a grave voice, he explained the meaning of the abusive word. He waited for the meaning to sink into the minds of the audience. He effectively made use of the tone, tenor, pause and intonation to win sympathy from the audience.
In contrast, Chandrababu feigned anger, shouted at the top of the voice without a pause or gap. Of late, Chandrababu has been speaking in the same manner on everything. This anger in his voice betrayed Chandrababu’s frustration. There was a tone of accusation and complaint in Chandrababu’s voice.
Normally, Jagan is not in the habit of commenting on every issue. Even when leaders like Somu Veerraju and others criticised him, he let it go. He displayed magnanimity. But in this case, he showed righteous indignation as his mother’s honour was involved and Indian culture does not allow dishonouring of motherhood. So, he cleverly played to the gallery and roused emotions of the public. Thus he succeeded in deflecting the attention from the YSRCP attacks on TDP offices and played victim card over Pattabhi’s statements.
