Interestingly, Narendra Modi extended the formation day wishes for the brothers and sisters in Andhra Pradesh in Telugu. On his microblogging site Twitter, Modi wishes one and all in Andhra Pradesh in a tweet that was made in Telugu. A similar tweet was made in English as well.
“Greetings to my sisters and brothers of Andhra Pradesh on the state’s Formation Day. The people of AP are known for their skills, determination and tenacity. That is why they are successful in many fields. May the people of AP always be happy, healthy and successful,” Narendra Modi tweeted.
Celebrated leader ‘Potti Sriramulu’ was instrumental in the agitation to have a state based on the Telugu language. With a demand of forming a state for the Telugu people, Potti Sriramulu, popularly known as Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu sat for a hunger fast that went on for 56 days. Sadly, he lost his life in the process.
His death was followed by widespread bands and protests. With too much pressure from this, the government had agreed to form the state as per the States Reorganisation Act. At the time of state formation, Hyderabad was named as the capital for divided Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh was subjected to state bifurcation one more time on June 2nd in 2014. Fulfilling the dreams of Telangana people to have a state to protect their interests and culture, Telangana was divided from the combined state, and Telugu state Andhra Pradesh was made into two Telugu states.
