Supreme Court dismisses IAS officer Srilakshmi’s plea

Supreme Court Friday dismissed the petition filed by Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS officer Y Srilakshmi in Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) case. She approached the apex court, to direct the CBI to conduct a hearing on charges and discharge applications, only after the investigation agency files its final report under Section 173 of CrPC, concerning the ‘inter-State boundary dispute’.

The apex court struck down her petition, seeking to stay the CBI probe against her. The Telangana High Court on September 21 dismissed the petition filed by her regarding the same. Srilakshmi appealed to the Supreme Court, challenging the verdict of the High Court.

On this petition, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice A. S Bopanna, the two-member bench, held a hearing on Friday. Senior counsel Ranjith Kumar appeared for Srilakshmi. He said the CBI had already filed four chargesheets and was seeking time to file additional chargesheets each time. He asked the court to stay the trial of the case as the border dispute between the two states was not clear and the CBI had not registered full charges for nine years.

Justice Chandrachud commented that the CBI had already stated that the trial was nearing completion and that they could not press for a speedy conclusion. The bench dismissed the petition on the ground that there is no need for a separate hearing as the High Court had considered and ruled on all the issues.
