Whatever happened to Guntur’s TDP MP Galla Jayadev? After a year of hyper-activism, he has suddenly gone silent. He is not to be seen in any TDP programme. He is said to be keeping away from the TDP leaders, including Chandrababu Naidu.
In fact, Galla was very active till recently. He was very active in the Amaravati capital movement and was in the forefront in the TDP-sponsored siege of the AP Assembly on Amaravati issue. He had even used his influence to collect funds for Amaravati cause from the NRI supporters of the TDP. He also led a farmers’ delegation to New Delhi. In fact, he tried to link Amaravati farmers’ leaders with national level politicians.
But, then he suddenly went silent. Sources said that he fell silent after the AP Government targeted his Amara Raja Batteries company on pollution-related issues. Initially, he sounded defiant and even went to the courts against the government orders. But, even the courts ruled against his industrial unit. Since then, he has almost withdrawn himself from active politics.
Highly placed sources say that some mediators stepped in and they negotiated an ‘underhand’ settlement between the Amara Raja Batteries and the State Government. The government has reportedly begun going silently on the Amara Raja group. At the same time, Galla Jay too felt that there was no need for adventurism and confrontation with the state Government. Since then, he started maintaining a low profile.
