NTR: Superstar in Films, Trendsetter in Politics

Politics and films are two of the most talked-about films in India. Achieving cult status in one area is a tough job for anyone. But there is a man who reached cult status in politics and films as well. He left a big mark in two areas and made people remember him.

Here we are talking about Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao. As it is the 26th death anniversary of the iconic personality, let us dive into the interesting facts on his film and acting career as well.

Sr NTR had a dreamy career any Superstar could have. No genre was not touched by NTR, be it social drama, fantasy, mythology, historic. You name it, he aced the genre. We cannot imagine anyone playing the roles of Gods other than NTR, that’s the impact he had created.

During the peaks of his career, NTR experimented by doing deglamorized roles and aged characters. His fans and audiences loved wherever he did. Showing a new path to the industry, NTR paved a way for commercial films.

His political career too was fascinating. As a bid to benefit the Telugu people who made him the Superstar, NTR Sr had made his way into politics by starting Telugu Desam Party. The national party Congress was his main target at that time.

He took over his mighty target quite easily and crushed the Congress party by winning 199 Assembly seats in the 1983 elections. After coming to power, NTR banned liquor consumption without thinking much about the revenue loss. NTR scripted history by becoming the first person to reach the Chief Minister post outside the Congress party in the state. After NTR’s landslide victory people began to see Telugu people separate from Tamilians.

His bold decision on providing quality rice for the poor for a mere cost of Rs 2 per kilo is often regarded as a historic one in politics. This made him the leader of the masses in the state.

Not just the regional politics, NT Rama Rao entered the national politics and with his anti-Congress stand, NTR formed an alliance with a few like-minded parties that are against the Congress.
