Russia-Ukraine Crisis: Ball is in India’s Court!

The European nation Ukraine was hit by an unexpected crisis in the form of the Russian invasion. Despite Ukraine putting up a brave face and fighting back strongly, both nations had faced serious damage. The UN said that many lives were lost in both armed forces due to the ongoing war.

The superpower nation Russia is having a slight advantage here given the army strength it has. As a result, many structures and iconic places in Ukraine were destroyed by the Russian army. Ukraine had now reached a point where it had realized having a brave face is not enough and talks are the need of the hour to put an end to this.

With the United States and NATO failing to rescue them, Ukraine has once again pinned high hopes on us that India might be the force it has been looking for to come out of the crisis. Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba had said the same about the ongoing crisis.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister said that they are hoping to see Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a mediator between the two nations in the wake of the crisis. Ukraine wants to see India playing a big role in this.

Now the ball is in India’s court and we have to wait and see what India will do. Looking at the possibilities of this, Russia has been a good friend to us and the friendship between the two nations has been continuing since the 1971 war. Even after BJP formed the Union government, the saffron party has only taken forward the friendship.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union Government took the friendship to the next level by making arms deals. As part of the deal, India would buy warcraft and other powerful arms from the superpower nation Russia.

Keeping the same friendship in mind, India took a neutral stand on the issue. Even at the NATO voting, India kept itself distant from voting on the resolution against Russia that was tabled by the United States. Looking at all these, India would not show interest in making talks. Even if it makes any talks, India would make sure that it doesn’t affect the friendship.
