Has the AP BJP begun a course correction as far as its relationship with the Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena? It appears so. On Wednesday, senior BJP leader and national secretary Daggubati Purandeswari made an important statement on the party’s relations with the Jana Sena. These comments assume significance in view of the reports that Chandrababu Naidu is trying to woo Jana Sena with an eye on the 2024 elections.
Speaking at the Party Founday Day meeting, Purandesari said that the BJP would respond on the issue of the Vizag Steel Plant if Pawan Kalyan choses to discuss the issue with the party. She said that the alliance between the two parties would continue. She also said that the pact would continue despite separate programmes.
She said the BJP was ready to discuss the Vizag Steel Plant issue with Pawan Kalyan and was willing to reflect the people’s aspirations in front of the national leadership. She said that the people of the state were yearning for a change and that they were ready to throw out the YSRCP government. She said that the YSRCP government in the state was bent on destroying all existing systems.
This is the first admission in recent times by a key BJP leader about the relations with the Jana Sena. Of late, Chandrababu Naidu is trying to wean away Pawan Kalyan from the BJP and enter into a pact with the Jana Sena for the 2024 elections. Chandrababu has even talked out the “one-sided love†that the TDP has for the Jana Sena. Statement by Purandeswari shows that the BJP is in no position to forgo its alliance with the Jana Sena.
