Jagan getting ready for early polls?

There are still two more years to go for the assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh and YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has a long way to go to implement his welfare schemes to win back the confidence of the people.

However, of late, there have been reports that Jagan has decided to go into the people from now on and spend most of the time touring different parts of the state to oversee the implementation of his welfare schemes and get a direct feedback from the people.

The reshuffle of the cabinet and the appointment of YSRC regional coordinators, district party presidents and in-charge ministers ahead of the party plenary in July has given rise to a talk in the political circles as to whether Jagan is contemplating going in for early elections in the state.

The chief minister has already addressed a couple of meetings – one at Narasaraopet and another at Nandyal, where he spoke aggressively attacking the opposition TDP, its proposed alliance partner Jana Sena and others, while seeking to explain his welfare programmes.

He is also going to address similar meetings in East Godavari on Thursday and Ongole on Friday, where he will definitely continue his aggressive attack on the TDP and Jana Sena.

Sources said hereafter, Jagan is going to tour the districts as frequently as possible to address the meetings.

He reportedly instructed the AP State Road Transport Corporation authorities to keep ready two bullet proof buses with all the facilities for his district tours.

The APSRTC has already procured bullet proof vehicles in 2009 and 2015, but now, the Jagan government wants fresh vehicles with attached pantry and washroom and other facilities. Hereafter, Jagan will travel only in these bullet proof vehicles.

During the tours, the chief minister will conduct Racha Banda (public forums) with villagers and also visit village secretariats to oversee their functioning.

He will also take part in Gadapa Gadapakoo YSRCP (YSRC at every threshold) programme to attract the people.

At the same time, he would also focus on setting the district party units right and preventing internal wrangling.

“All these activities indicate that Jagan is contemplating going in for early elections. They could be in the first half of next year or six months ahead of schedule,” sources said.
