The teaser of launch of ‘Ponniyin Selvan – 1’ was organised in Chennai on Friday and it was attended by most of its star cast and crew. It is the biggest movie ever made in Kollywood and the grandeur is very much evident in the teaser. It is going to be released in multiple languages. As we know, the culture of pan-Indian films is getting popular all over the South. Many star heroes in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada are making pan-Indian movies that cater to people all over the nation. Films like ‘KGF’ franchise, ‘Baahubali’ franchise, ‘RRR’, ‘Pushpa’ and others stand as big examples for that.
With ‘Vikram’ featuring Kamal Hassan, Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Fasil and others earning over 400 crores, a lot of people in Kollywood are pointing that there were pan-Indian films from Tamil industry long back. Recently, star actress Trisha Krishnan shared her experience of working with Mani Ratnam and called him the first pan-Indian filmmaker. She said, “It is Maniratnam sir who has made the first Pan Indian films including the likes of Roja in the 90s itself.”
It is an undeniable fact because his films like ‘Roja’, ‘Nayagan’, ‘Bombay’ and many others were huge hits all over the nation. He is one of the biggest directors to ever come out of South film industry but the phenomenon of pan-Indian movies is picking up now with all the regional filmmakers trying to make films that have a nationwide appeal, according to the experts.
Coming to ‘Ponniyin Selvan – 1’, Produced under Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies banners, the cast of the film includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R Parthiban. Ravi Varman is the director of photography while Sreekar Prasad is the editor. We all know that it is an AR Rahman musical while Eka Lakhani designed the wardrobe. Action was composed by Kecha Khamphakdee, Sham Kaushal & Dhilip Subbarayan. The movie is hitting the screens on 30th September.
