Are only MLAs to be blamed for YSRCP’s low popularity?

Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s open criticism of the performance of his MLAs has become a hot topic of discussion in the YSRCP circles.YS Jagan has said that there is resentment against 70 per cent of the MLAs and that if the same trend continues, he may have to drop them.

But, the party sources feel the MLAs alone should not be blamed. During the past three years, the MLAs of the party have been reduced to dummies. They have no say in the implementation of the welfare schemes or in sanctioning houses or pensions. Everything is being controlled by the village volunteers who are directly in touch with the CMO. The MLAs have been relegated to the background.

More importantly, a large number of MLAs have spent huge amounts to contest the elections. Several of them are yet to clear the arrears. For instance, minister Usha Sri Charan is still to clear Rs 50 lakh out of the Rs 1 crore she had taken as a loan at the time of the elections. This has become a public issue causing huge embarrassment to her.

Several other MLAs are facing a similar situation. The party leadership has done nothing to ease the situation. The MLAs have literally been left out of the system, feel analysts. They strongly feel that the MLAs alone cannot be blamed for their unpopularity. They feel that the YSRCP should take immediate steps to help the sitting MLAs.
