Dashing director Puri Jagannadh hasn’t delivered a successful film after ‘Temper’ till ‘Ismart Shankar’ arrived. He made movies like ‘Jyothi Lakshmi’, ‘Rogue’, ‘Ism’, ‘Loafer’, ‘Mehbooba’ and ‘Paisa Vasool’ but they were all below par films which failed to impress the audience. But ‘Ismart Shankar’ turned out to be a blockbuster.
This masala entertainer which came out in 2019 had nothing special and had a lot of flaws. The over-the-top nature wasn’t loved by many but it is Mani Sharma’s music that played a vital role in the film’s success. The super hit songs and the massy background scores he gave lifted the film. After such a huge hit, there were reports that Mani Sharma was supposed to work on the music of ‘Liger’ too. But the veteran composer came out of the project and he was replaced by six music composers.
Despite all their best efforts, ‘Liger’ failed to make an impact. The songs didn’t turn out to be hits and gave the feeling of listening to some Hindi-dubbed tracks. The local touch went missing and the background score was a major disappointment too. Many claim that Mani Sharma would have delivered a better album and being a specialist in background scores, his expertise would have helped the film.
The style of using multiple composers for ‘Saaho’ and ‘Radhe Shyam’ failed too and we need to see if the South directors stick to the basics from here on or not.
