A new era has begun in the country’s telecom sector. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made 5G services available in the country on Saturday.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the 6th edition of the India Mobile Congress – 2022 program at Pragati Maidan in Delhi. Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio, explained the demo of the capabilities of these services to Modi.
5G services will start in 13 selected cities first and will be rolled out across the country in the next few years. As part of the first phase, these services will be made available in the cities of Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune.
The total economic impact of 5G on India is estimated to reach 450 billion dollars (about Rs. 36 lakh crore) by 2035. Three private telecom companies in the country have bought spectrum worth Rs 1.5 lakh crore for 5G services. Jio bought spectrum worth Rs.88,078 crore, while Airtel for Rs.43.084 crore, Vodafone and Idea obtained spectrum worth Rs.18,799 crore. Jio and Airtel have already announced that they will launch 5G services in October.
