Jayalalithaa’s Death: Arumugasamy Commission Raises Many Doubts

The death of veteran actress-turned-Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa is one of the much-talked-about incidents in recent times. As the issue was from Tamil Nadu, it caught everyone’s attention. The demise of the then Chief Minister had sent shocking waves in the political circles.

To look into the doubts and speculations, the Justice Arumugasamy Commission was constituted to probe the matter. After a detailed probe, the commission submitted its report to the current government in Tamil Nadu and the report was tabled in the Assembly house. The report has found some crucial and ground-breaking details.

It is said that the committee found some lapses in the death case and said that an inquiry should be called against Jayalalithaa’s close aide Sasikala, former Health Minister Vijayabaskar, and former Health Secretary Radhakrishnan and doctor Sivakumar.

What raised many questions in the death case is the difference between the death time announced by the doctors at the hospital and the time the staff at the ward said. The commission asked what happened in these 32 hours.

The special commission said the hospital announced Jayalalithaa’s death on December 5th,2016 at 11: 30 PM. But the staff said she passed away at 3: 50 PM on 4th of December. Having said that the commission asked if there is any intention behind the delay in announcing the death.

Another big doubt raised by the Commission is why the suggestion given by doctors from Bombay, the USA, and the UK were ignored by Apollo Hospitals. The report mentioned that the doctors advised angio/surgery abroad for the Chief Minister and the Apollo Hospitals did not consider the suggestion.

The doubts raised by the commission are big doubts and would bring many bigshots before the bars including Sasikala. As Jayalalithaa was treated at the Apollo Hospitals, the administration might also face some serious questions.

“From all these aspects, the commission concludes that R.1-VK Sasikala, CW.17-KS Sivakumar, CW.136-Dr.J.Radhakrishnan, then Health Secretary and C.W.146-Dr. C. Vijayabaskar then Health Minister has to be found fault with and an investigation is to be ordered ” the Arumugasamy Commission said on the death of the former Chief Minister.
