Ravi Teja’s Dhamaka set the tone for the year and continued to impress the audience, emerging as a massive hit. The first quarter saw other movies also making a mark and delighting fans and trade circles alike. Here are the Tollywood top 5 films from the first quarter of 2023.
Waltair Veerayya, starring Mega Star Chiranjeevi, turned out to be a massive blockbuster and brought the Boss back to form. The movie emerged as the top grosser, crossing the 230-plus crore mark, and winning the Chiru-Balayya clash.
Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy kept up his success streak after Akhanda and created a Balayya mania at Sankranti. The film had a terrific opening and weekend, registering packed houses and great numbers, grossing over 130 crore.
Dhanush’s Sir, directed by Venky Atluri, was the surprise hit of the year, emerging as the highest-grossing film of Dhanush’s career in Telugu states, with a gross of over 50 crore.
Venu Yeldandi’s Balagam, a sleeper hit, won hearts and impressed the audience, crossing the Rs 20 crore mark at the box office and OTT platforms. The film has had a strong impact as the small film of the year and received great reviews.
Nani’s Dasara made a massive impact at the box office, breaking records with its opening figures and beating even Veera Simha Reddy and Waltair Veerayya, with a gross of over 50 crore in just 2 days. The movie is still running and expected to continue its strong run, giving Nani a much-needed breakthrough.
