Tollywood Gears Up for September’s Blockbuster: NTR’s ‘Devara’

As August draws to a close, the Telugu film industry is abuzz with anticipation for the upcoming release of NTR’s pan-Indian action drama, ‘Devara’. The movie, slated to hit theaters on September 27th, has generated immense hype and is poised to be the biggest release of the month.

While ‘Devara’ promises to dominate the box office, the rest of September’s lineup appears relatively quiet. Despite the significant gap between ‘Devara’ and the other releases, there seems to be a lack of notable films vying for attention. This is a departure from the usual trend where producers capitalize on the buzz surrounding major releases by scheduling their own films to coincide.

One of the few films generating some buzz is Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘GOAT’, which is set to release in the first week of September. However, the anticipation for this film in the Telugu states is relatively low, and it has faced criticism and trolling. Other smaller-scale films like Suhas’ ‘Janaka Aithe Ganaka’, Nivetha Thomas’ ’35 Chinna Katha Kaadu’, and Raj Tarun’s ‘Bhale Unnade’ are also scheduled for release but have not garnered significant attention.

The sequel to the successful small film ‘Mathu Vadalara’, titled ‘Mathu Vadalara 2’, is another upcoming release. The film features the original cast along with the addition of Faria Abdullah. However, like many other films in September, it lacks the aggressive promotion that typically accompanies major releases.

The subdued nature of September’s film releases is reminiscent of the situation leading up to the release of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’. Despite the presence of a highly anticipated film at the end of the month, there is ample space for other projects to capitalize on the excitement. However, Tollywood producers seem hesitant to take this risk.

As the month progresses, it remains to be seen if any hidden gems will emerge from the relatively quiet lineup. While ‘Devara’ is undoubtedly the star of the show, the rest of September’s releases will provide a glimpse into the diverse landscape of Telugu cinema.
