Chandrababu Naidu’s government in Andhra Pradesh still needs to fulfil the poll promise of offering employment opportunities to the youth. However, it has created ways through which retirees are given a chance to be reappointed and contracted for outsourcing. In their respective election manifestos, TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan announced that they would give employment opportunities to 20 lakh youths. They also promised unemployed youths that they would be paid ₹3,000 per month until they found a job.
Unfortunately, since coming to power, the government has not addressed such commitments. On the contrary, it has launched rules to offer contracts to its retirees on a contractual and outsourcing basis, thus eliminating all fresh candidates. What the government has done has brought a lot of frown on the faces of unemployed youths who wish to secure themselves with government jobs.
A senior official even condemned it, saying, “The government is stealing new candidates’ opportunities by reappointing retired employees.” This move will only worsen unemployment. The government’s order has covered the deputy secretary, deputy director, and lower-cadre positions. On re-appointment, a screening committee will comprise the principal secretary of the finance department.
Various allowances and salaries paid to retired employees shall be reimbursed in accordance with the instructions and regulations of the finance department for the fiscal year 2018.As a result, unemployed youths answered the minister’s questions with astonishment and asked if they would ever have the opportunity to work in government jobs.
