The highly anticipated film Vettaiyan, starring Fahadh Faasil and Amitabh Bachchan, has faced significant challenges at the box office despite its star-studded cast and high production values. Produced on a massive 300 crore budget, the film has struggled to recoup its costs.
In its initial eight days, Vettaiyan managed to gross 123.68 crores across languages in India. However, a steep decline of 70% on Monday and subsequent drops have pushed its daily collections to a mere 2.30-2.45 crores. This disappointing performance has put Lyca Productions, the production house behind the film, in a precarious financial position.
Lyca Productions, which has previously faced financial setbacks with Rajinikanth films like 2.0, Lal Salaam, and Darbar, had pinned their hopes on Vettaiyan to turn the tide. With the film’s underperformance, the production house has reportedly approached Rajinikanth for assistance. It is speculated that Lyca Productions may request Rajinikanth to star in another film for them at a reduced salary. However, whether the superstar will agree to this proposal remains uncertain.
The struggles faced by Vettaiyan highlight the risks associated with large-budget productions and the challenges of attracting audiences in today’s competitive film market.
