Speaking in an interview on YouTube, the Minister emphasized that these emerging trends contradict traditional societal values and cultural norms in India.
Gadkari expressed concern over the shift from formal marriages to live-in relationships, referencing his visit to the British Parliament, where he learned that such a shift is one of the biggest challenges faced by the United Kingdom. He questioned the implications of this change on family structures, especially in relation to having children and securing their futures. According to the Minister, deviating from established social structures could lead to significant long-term consequences. He suggested that a societal imbalance, such as having 1,500 women and 1,000 men, might eventually necessitate allowing men to have multiple wives.
On the topic of same-sex marriages, Gadkari argued that such unions would disrupt the social framework, leading to its collapse. His comments have sparked debate on the future of marriage laws in India, particularly regarding LGBTQ+ rights.
However, the Minister was unequivocal in his stance on marital rape, stating that it is categorically wrong.
