In a dramatic turn of events, the Telangana Legislative Assembly witnessed a heated debate today regarding the Sandhya Theatre incident, which has become a focal point of public and political discourse. The incident, which tragically resulted in the death of a common citizen, Revathi, during a publicity stunt involving popular actor Allu Arjun, prompted strong responses from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed his grave concern over the growing influence of the film industry, asserting that while the industry has long been granted privileges in terms of ticket pricing and benefit shows, this must not come at the cost of public safety. Reddy emphasized that the tragic incident marks a turning point, stating, “The film industry has been allowed special privileges to promote films, but this line has been crossed when it results in the loss of innocent lives.” He added that, under his leadership, the Telangana government would no longer extend special privileges to the industry. The Chief Minister called for accountability and vowed to ensure that the film industry no longer poses risks to the common people.
In line with these sentiments, Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced that, henceforth, the state would not permit special shows, such as night screenings before movie releases, nor allow hikes in ticket prices. Minister Venkat Reddy reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding public interests while also regulating the entertainment sector in a manner that prevents such incidents from reoccurring.
Minister Venkat Reddy also expressed his condolences to the bereaved family of Revathi and announced a donation of ₹25 lakh to support the family. Furthermore, the Minister visited the hospital where Revathi’s son, Shri Tej, is currently receiving treatment, assuring the family of all possible assistance from the Telangana government.
This unexpected and poignant turn of events has sparked widespread discussions on the intersection of public safety, the film industry’s influence, and the role of the government in regulating these sectors to prevent such tragedies in the future. The Telangana government’s decisive stance on this issue signals a shift in the state’s policy towards the entertainment industry.
