Hyd Welcomes Transgender Traffic Police From Today

In a pioneering move aimed at promoting inclusivity and equality, the Telangana government has officially deployed transgender individuals in traffic management duties across Hyderabad. As part of a six-month pilot project, 39 transgender individuals, who have undergone 15 days of intensive training at the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate, will now be stationed at key traffic junctions and signal points throughout the city.

The training program covered essential aspects of traffic management, both outdoor and indoor duties, along with technical skills required for effective traffic supervision. The Telangana government’s initiative marks a significant step towards greater integration of the transgender community into mainstream society, offering them a chance to play an active and visible role in public life.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CP Anand praised the initiative, describing it as a revolutionary step towards fostering social integration. He expressed strong support for the project, highlighting its potential to create a positive societal impact by encouraging mutual understanding and respect between transgender individuals and the general public. Commissioner Anand also referenced Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s message that urges the elimination of discrimination against the transgender community, advocating for equal treatment and opportunities.

The pilot project is expected to set a precedent for the nationwide inclusion of transgender individuals in public service roles. If successful, the initiative could pave the way for similar efforts across other cities in India, contributing to long-term social change and greater acceptance.

CP Anand urged the transgender individuals on duty to approach the opportunity with a sense of responsibility, as their actions could inspire broader societal transformation. With the guidance of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, this project seeks to empower the transgender community, creating an opportunity for them to demonstrate their skills and contribute meaningfully to society.

This initiative exemplifies Hyderabad’s commitment to inclusivity and sets a progressive example for the rest of the country, ensuring that transgender individuals are recognized as equals in all sectors of society.
