Home Ministry Clears Kejriwal Prosecution in ED Case Ahead of Polls

The ongoing tussle between the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal intensified today, as the Ministry of Home Affairs granted approval for his prosecution in connection with the alleged money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.

Delhi Lt. Governor VK Saxena had earlier given clearance for prosecuting Kejriwal, and with the Home Ministry’s green light, the ED is set to file charges against the AAP leader and his former deputy.

This development comes at a critical time, just weeks ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5, and could pose a significant political challenge for the AAP. While AAP leaders continue to claim that Kejriwal’s potential arrest is politically motivated, the framing of charges and the commencement of a trial may reshape the public narrative.

Notably, the Supreme Court, in a landmark verdict last November, mandated that the ED must seek prior approval before prosecuting public officials. Today’s sanction by the Home Ministry ensures that the legal process adheres to that directive.
