Can special roles save films?

Tollywood now a days is witnessing a sea change in film making. Till recently all the film makers insisted on having special numbers to catch the attention of movie lovers and masses. They started referring to item numbers as special songs so that people and listeners won’t feel offended by the words. When films started bombing at box offices even though they included the so called special songs, film makers in their efforts to generate interest among fans and movie lovers started casting top stars in special roles. Now they started calling cameos as special roles.

However one wonder whether special roles by stars can save the film. Currently Nara Rohit is making special appearance in Mass Raja Raviteja’s ‘Sir Ostara’. It is a known fact the Raviteja is reeling under string of flops. However that did not stop Raviteja in making special appearance in Sai Ram Shankar’s ‘Romeo’. This Puri Jagannath’s brother is also reeling under string of flops. Trade analysts feel that special roles may generate interest in the project but unless until film has strong story line, cameos can not save the films from drowning.

Analysts cite the example of Manchu Manoj starrer ‘Ukodatara Ulikipadatara’ which starred Natasimha Balakrishna in powerful cameo. However the film bombed at the box office. Film makers better concentrate on strong and innovative story lines than all these gimmicks.
