Responding directly to those condemning remakes, he argued that it’s unfair to criticize them blindly. Citing Taare Zameen Par as an example — which was inspired by the Spanish film Campeones — he challenged the media, asking how many had even seen the original version. Even then, he noted, he didn’t simply cut and paste the story; he localized it for Indian audiences.
Aamir also pointed out how Ghajini, which was a remake, became the first film in his career — and also in Bollywood history — to cross the ₹100 crore milestone. Producer Allu Aravind was widely appreciated for bringing the Hindi version of Ghajini to life and for creating such a massive success for Aamir and the industry. Aamir remarked that Taare Zameen Par also received glowing reviews, although its box-office opening was not as strong as expected. The movie, featuring Genelia in a pivotal role, had to compete with the Kajol-starrer horror film Maa, which was released around the same time and had also generated considerable hype.
