SS Rajamouli had initially planned to present a film on the life of Dadasaheb Phalke, rather than direct it himself. The project was to be helmed by Nitin Kakkar, with NTR reportedly considered for the lead role. While there have been rumors of the film being shelved, its current status remains unclear.
Meanwhile, another film on the same concept, a collaboration between Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani, is also reportedly facing the axe. The Phalke family had supported Hirani’s project and were happy with its progress, having earlier raised objections to Rajamouli’s vision. However, due to script issues, the Aamir-Hirani film has reportedly been put on hold.
According to reports, “Aamir felt that the script is too dry for today’s audience and lacked the humour expected from their collaborations. After several rewrite sessions, the duo collectively decided to pause the project.”
Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani are known for their perfectionist approach, delivering iconic hits like 3 Idiots and other blockbusters. With this new project now shelved, it remains to be seen if another filmmaker will attempt to bring Dadasaheb Phalke’s life to the big screen.
