Aamir Khan’s recent release Sitaare Zameen Par had a decent run at the box office. Though it has no connection to his iconic film Taare Zameen Par, Aamir attempted to craft the narrative in a way that audiences could emotionally connect with.
In an interesting twist, Aamir had earlier announced that the movie would not be available on any OTT platform for six months after its theatrical release. However, breaking that rule, he has now revealed a first-of-its-kind move — the film will soon be available on YouTube for ₹100.
This bold decision could pave the way for a new digital revenue model, where major films debut on YouTube as a paid option before heading to traditional OTT platforms. While the announcement has created a buzz, it has also sparked debate as the YouTube release comes just 50 days after the theatrical premiere.
Many viewers have accused Aamir of backtracking on his previous statement, calling it a planned strategy to draw attention. At the same time, there is also concern over piracy since the early digital availability could lead to widespread unauthorized copies.
Despite the criticism, the team is confident that this innovative approach will attract a large online audience and change the way movies are monetized.
Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par tells the inspiring story of a basketball coach sentenced to community service, where he trains a group of neurodivergent adults. Through the journey, he undergoes a transformation as he learns life lessons from his players.
