Veteran actress Surekha Sikri has passed away on Friday morning due to cardiac arrest. She was 75.
In a statement, the agent said the National Award-winning actor had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She had suffered a brain stroke in 2020 and a paralytic stroke earlier in 2018.
“She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time,” the statement read.
Surekha Sikri’s career spanned theatre, films and television. She made her debut with the 1978 political drama film Kissa Kursi Ka. She bagged the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress thrice, including Tamas (1988), Mammo (1995) and Badhaai Ho (2018).
Sikri was last seen in an anthology last year directed by Zoya Akhtar.
She is survived by her son Rahul Sikri.
