Akshay Benefitting From ‘Laal Singh Chadda’ Controversy!

Bollywood Khiladi Akshay Kumar is all set to lock horns with Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan on 11th August. While Akshay is arriving with a movie woven around sister sentiment titled ‘Raksha Bandhan’, Aamir is coming with the Indian adaptation of ‘Forrest Gump’ and it is titled ‘Laal Singh Chadda’. While it is a tough task to compete with Aamir Khan’s film since his movies break records most of the time, the situation is a bit different this time.

The comments made by Aamir Khan about intolerance in 2015 and still haunting him as a few sections of the public are demanding that ‘Laal Singh Chadda’ should be banned. Even Kareena who plays the lead in Aamir’s upcoming film made some controversial statements in the past which are working against ‘Laal Singh Chadda’. Despite Aamir himself coming out and explaining the situation, right wingers are not calming down. They are not ready to watch ‘Laal Singh Chadda’ at all costs. They are even influencing others through social media platforms by starting anti-Aamir Khan hashtags. Aamir faced the same situation during the release of ‘Thugs Of Hindustan’ too but Amitabh Bachchan’s presence in the film limited the agitation.

But the troubles of ‘Laal Singh Chadda’ are working in favour of Akshay Kumar and his movie ‘Raksha Bandhan’ is a complete entertainer with a good dose of emotions. Sister sentiment is the key factor of this film and people who are against Aamir’s film are openly supporting Akshay’s movie. This will have a huge impact on the opening day collections and all ‘Raksha Bandhan’ needs to do is to get a positive talk. On the other hand, Aamir’s film needs a unanimous hit talk right from the morning shows in order to overcome this heat and end up being successful on 11th August. Let us wait and see what happens.

When Homebound, backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, entered the Oscar contention, it became a proud moment for Indian cinema. Adding to that momentum, another Indian film—this time from the South—has stepped onto the global stage.

Tamil cinema has reason to celebrate as last year’s sleeper hit Tourist Family is now officially eligible and in contention for the Best Picture (Foreign Film) category at the 98th Academy Awards. The film is among 201 international entries competing for a nomination, making its inclusion itself a significant milestone.

Tourist Family is a 2025 Tamil-language drama written and directed by Abhishan Jeevinth in his feature film debut. Starring Sasikumar and Simran in the lead roles, the film follows a Sri Lankan Tamil family forced to flee their homeland and live under assumed identities in a small town in Tamil Nadu. When the police eventually trace them, the residents of the colony unite to protect the family, highlighting themes of compassion, solidarity, and humanity.

Made on a modest budget, Tourist Family went on to collect nearly ₹90 crore worldwide, emerging as one of the year’s most unexpected success stories. Should the film secure an Oscar nomination, it would mark a landmark achievement—not just for its makers, but for Tamil cinema as a whole.
