Rashmika Mandanna Faces Backlash Over Comments on Animal’s Ranvijay
Actress Rashmika Mandanna is facing intense criticism following her recent comments about Ranbir Kapoor’s controversial character Ranvijay from the film Animal. The film itself has been the subject of widespread debate due to its portrayal of toxic masculinity and glorification of the alpha-male persona.
During a conversation with journalist Barkha Dutt, Rashmika was asked by a fan if she would ever date someone like Ranvijay in real life. Her response — “I truly believe that if you love someone and someone loves you, the changes will happen” — took many by surprise and sparked immediate backlash online.
Barkha Dutt, not letting the remark slide, challenged her, saying, “Do you actually think that you can change people? You know that’s a young and romantic idea?”
Rashmika tried to clarify her point, explaining that people grow and evolve in relationships:
“When you grow up with someone, you’re still forming your personality. You figure out what you like and what you don’t. And when you grow together… you reflect on how much both people change over time.”
She added, “Maybe I’m just talking about those miracle partners or situations.”
Strong Reactions on Social Media
Despite her explanation, Rashmika’s comments didn’t sit well with netizens. On platforms like Reddit, users were quick to criticize her for what they saw as romanticizing unhealthy relationship dynamics.
One user wrote, “It’s sad that girls are still conditioned to believe they can fix men. Rashmika is just echoing outdated societal expectations.” Others labeled her a “pick-me,” and one bluntly stated, “It’s embarrassing to hear a grown woman say this.”
Many felt the correct response would’ve been a straightforward “No, I wouldn’t date someone like Ranvijay,” given the violent and problematic nature of the character.
A Lesson in Celebrity Responsibility
This incident once again highlights how celebrity statements on sensitive topics — especially involving gender roles and relationships — are heavily scrutinized. When tied to already controversial films like Animal, even offhand remarks can become flashpoints for public debate.
