Raja Shivaji Trailer Sparks Buzz Ahead of May 1 Release
April 20, 2026
The trailer of Raja Shivaji, directed by Riteish Deshmukh, has managed to generate decent buzz ahead of its May 1 release. Mounted as a historical drama, the film stands out for its rich visuals, solid production design, and an impactful background score by Ajay–Atul, reflecting a sincere effort to bring the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to the big screen.
At first glance, the trailer appears well-packaged. The scale of the film, detailed costumes, and well-choreographed action sequences suggest a carefully crafted project. The emotional undertones further hint at a narrative driven by pride, sacrifice, and valor rooted in history.
Riteish Deshmukh, who has taken on multiple responsibilities as writer, director, and producer, seems deeply invested in the film. The project is also backed by Genelia D’Souza as producer, in collaboration with Jio Studios, adding further weight to its production value.
However, audience reactions have been mixed when it comes to Riteish portraying Shivaji Maharaj. While his dedication to the role is visible, some viewers feel that the intensity and transformation expected from such an iconic historical figure are not fully convincing in the trailer. This has sparked discussion on whether he will be able to fully embody the role in the final cut.
That said, historical dramas in Indian cinema have often found strong acceptance when backed by engaging storytelling and emotional depth. If Raja Shivaji manages to strike the right balance between scale and narrative strength, it still holds the potential to make a strong impact at the box office. All eyes are now on how the film shapes up upon release and whether Riteish Deshmukh delivers a memorable performance in the full feature.
