Amal Clooney Faces U.S. Visa Ban Over ICC Involvement in Israeli War Crimes Case

Amal Clooney, the renowned British-Lebanese human rights lawyer and wife of actor George Clooney, is reportedly facing the risk of being barred from entering the United States due to her involvement with the International Criminal Court (ICC). Clooney has been advising the ICC on potential war crimes charges against Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Reports suggest that former U.S. President Donald Trump issued an executive order that directly targeted ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan for seeking arrest warrants against the Israeli officials. Additionally, the UK Foreign Office has indicated that other prominent human rights lawyers, such as Amal Clooney, may also be subject to sanctions from the U.S. government.

The sanctions include financial penalties and visa restrictions aimed at ICC officials and their families, following the issuance of arrest warrants by the ICC for Netanyahu and Gallant over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Amal Clooney, known for her work in international law, is said to have advised the ICC on whether there was enough evidence to pursue charges.

Clooney, a graduate of Oxford and New York University, has built a distinguished legal career, representing high-profile clients such as Julian Assange, Nadia Murad, and Mohamed Nasheed. Along with her husband, she co-founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice and holds academic positions at both Columbia Law School and the University of Oxford.
