Amaravati masterplan to undergo major changes?

It looks like YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is not in a hurry to decide on whether to continue the capital city at Amaravati or not.

Though minister for municipal administration Botsa Satyanarayana said in the assembly that there was no plan to shift the capital for now, he later clarified that he was only explaining the status report and the future capital location would be decided by the expert committee.

At the same time, the Jagan government has invited a team of professors from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, to visit Amarvati capital region on Tuesday to study the existing masterplan of Amaravati as prepared by the TDP government and suggest changes in the same.

The professors, who are experts in roads, water supply, planning, electricity and water management engineering, will examine the progress made in the capital region so far, how far the plan can be downsized and make changes in the masterplan accordingly.

The team of experts would interact with the officials of Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) and Urban Development authorities on various projects taken up in the capital.

“The team will submit its report to the government within a month and a half. Only after that, the government will take a call on the capital city,” an official source said.

So, the capital city construction will have to wait at least for another couple of months!
