Amazon to Invest $12.7 Billion in AI Infrastructure for India by 2030

Amazon has announced a major new artificial intelligence (AI) initiative aimed at transforming India’s small business ecosystem and strengthening AI education across government schools by 2030. As part of the plan, the global tech giant will invest $12.7 billion in expanding its cloud and AI infrastructure in India, a move expected to benefit over 15 million small businesses and 4 million students nationwide.

The initiative aligns closely with the Government of India’s AI Mission, which focuses on improving accessibility, productivity, and digital inclusion through advanced technologies. Amazon said the expanded infrastructure will help position India as a global leader in AI innovation.

Currently, Amazon already provides agentic AI solutions across public and private sectors, supporting platforms and organisations such as DigiYatra, Apollo Tyres, and Axis Bank. With this fresh investment, the company aims to scale AI adoption among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), helping them streamline operations, enhance customer engagement, and improve overall business performance.

Commenting on the initiative, Samir Kumar, Country Manager, Amazon India, said,
“AI has the potential to be the great equaliser in India—breaking down barriers of language, literacy, and access that have historically held people back.”

Amazon has already rolled out several AI-powered tools for Indian sellers, including Seller Assistant, Creative Studio, and the Rufus AI Assistant. These tools help businesses analyse customer behaviour, define business goals, create smarter advertisements, and expand their reach across digital platforms.

Beyond commerce, Amazon is also making a strong push toward AI literacy and career awareness among government school students. The company’s education-focused efforts will include enhanced AI curriculum, hands-on learning experiments, teacher training programs, and career exposure tours by 2030. This education strategy will directly support the objectives of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises digital literacy and skill-based learning.

With this large-scale investment, Amazon is positioning AI as a key driver of inclusive growth—bridging educational gaps, boosting entrepreneurship, and strengthening India’s digital economy for the next decade.
