New Delhi: Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan took a nostalgic trip down memory lane on Monday as he shared a rare picture of an old movie ticket from his iconic blockbuster Sholay. Posting on his personal blog, the veteran star revealed that the ticket cost only ₹20 back then — a price that, as he humorously noted, is now comparable to the cost of an aerated drink at cinema halls.
“The ‘SHOLAY’ ticket… kept and preserved… ₹20!! The price… !!!!!?? I am told that is the price of an aerated drink in Theatre Halls nowadays… is that a fact?? So much to say, but say not… affection and love,” Amitabh wrote in his caption.
Released in 1975, Sholay became a cinematic phenomenon and remains one of India’s most celebrated films. Directed by Ramesh Sippy, the classic followed the story of Jai and Veeru — played by Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra — two ex-convicts recruited by a retired policeman to capture the ruthless dacoit Gabbar Singh, a role immortalized by Amjad Khan. The ensemble cast also featured Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, and Jaya Bachchan.
As the film approaches its 50th anniversary on August 15, 2025, Amitabh’s post has stirred nostalgia among fans, reminding them of the golden era of Indian cinema when a ticket to watch a masterpiece like Sholay cost just ₹20.
