Andhra Pradesh Launches Rs. 15,000 Auto Driver Welfare Scheme & Digital Ride App

At the launch of the Auto Driverala Sevalo Scheme, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced a significant boost in support for the state’s auto-rickshaw drivers. Under the scheme, financial assistance of Rs. 15,000 will be provided directly via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) to 2.9 lakh beneficiaries, including cab and max-cab operators. Notably, this is higher than the Rs. 10,000 offered under the previous YSR Vahan Mitra scheme during Jagan’s tenure.

In addition to financial aid, the government plans to establish an Auto Drivers Welfare Board to safeguard and promote the interests of drivers across Andhra Pradesh.

A key feature of the initiative is the launch of a state-run digital app, designed to connect auto-rickshaw drivers directly with passengers, similar to platforms like Uber and Ola. The app will help drivers receive more bookings, manage fares, and accept digital payments without relying on middlemen. Passengers will benefit from safer rides, fixed rates, and more reliable last-mile connectivity.

Initially, the app will be piloted in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, with a full-scale rollout across the state targeted for 2026. Officials also plan to integrate the app with existing government transport schemes, creating a comprehensive state mobility network.

Experts believe this initiative could be a game-changer: auto drivers will enjoy improved earnings and working conditions, while the government gains access to real-time travel data to better plan urban transport infrastructure.

For thousands of auto-rickshaw drivers, this digital transformation promises dignity, steady income, and modernized work opportunities, while offering the public a convenient and reliable ride-booking option.
