Andhra Pradesh Powers Ahead with ₹7,500 Cr Green Energy Project

Andhra Pradesh is rapidly emerging as India’s clean energy leader. Brookfield has secured ₹7,500 crore in funding from the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) to establish a massive renewable energy project in Kurnool. The hybrid plant — combining wind and solar — will generate 1,040 MW of green power, making it one of India’s largest private renewable projects.

The project will be executed by Evren, a joint venture between Brookfield and Axis Energy. Evren is also planning additional renewable projects in Kurnool and Anantapur, as part of Brookfield’s 8,000 MW clean energy roadmap for Andhra Pradesh, with a total investment of about ₹50,000 crore.

This major development follows Minister Nara Lokesh’s meeting with Brookfield Global President Connor Teskey in London, where they discussed expanding renewable energy and data center initiatives in the state. Brookfield, a global powerhouse in clean energy, infrastructure, and data centers, views Andhra Pradesh as a key investment hub.

Experts highlight that the Kurnool project’s integration of wind, solar, and battery storage will ensure an uninterrupted power supply, enhancing grid stability even during weather fluctuations.

Minister Lokesh remarked that Andhra Pradesh is fast becoming India’s renewable energy hub, adding that such investments will create jobs, boost investor confidence, and strengthen the state’s energy ecosystem.
