Ever since Om Raut’s mythological film Adipurush with Prabhas as the lead, playing Lord Ram was announced, Baahubali fans have been hoping that the female lead would be played by Anushka Shetty.
While Anushka was initially known for her glam-doll roles, she rose to fame when Arundhati, a film that saw her both as the modern Arundhati and the royal Jejamma. Later, her character in Baahubali as the princess Devasena and her role in Bhaagamathie have made her a favourite for fantasy and mythological films.
So when Prabhas’ film with Om with announced with Prabhas as Ram and Saif Ali Khan as Ravan, fans went into a frenzy wondering who would play Sita. Everyone’s name from Anushka Sharma to Kiara Advani’s was floated even if the filmmakers are yet to make the announcement. A bunch of Prabhas-Anushka’s fans from Baahubali also hoped that she would be the one to play Ram’s consort.
However, talking to Hyderabad Times, Anushka turned down the rumour as just that and said, “It’s just wistful thinking, I have no clue where the rumours of my role in Adipurush have even surfaced from. I’m not playing the role of Sita in the film; no one from the unit has even approached me for the same. I request fans to stay away from baseless gossip as I will definitely make an official announcement should I sign on any such role.”
While fans are heart-broken to know their beloved Sweety wouldn’t be sharing screen-space with their Darling in Adipurush, it has only upped everyone’s curiosity to know who plays the female lead now. Further details are awaited.
