Anurag Kashyap Makes His Telugu Debut with Dacoit
Acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has been shifting his focus away from Hindi cinema and embracing South Indian films. Expressing his discontent with Bollywood’s work culture and the challenges in getting his films released in the Hindi market, Kashyap has found a new creative space in South Indian cinema—not just as a director, but also as an actor.
Kashyap gained immense recognition as the menacing antagonist in the 2024 Tamil blockbuster Maharaja and later played a significant role in the Malayalam film Rifle Club. Now, he is making his Telugu debut in Adivi Sesh’s upcoming film Dacoit, solidifying his position as a sought-after antagonist in South India.
The first-look poster of Anurag Kashyap from Dacoit was unveiled today, where he will be seen as Inspector Swamy in this Telugu-Hindi bilingual. Sharing the poster, he wrote,
“Fearless, witty, and brutally honest – Announcing my first Telugu/Hindi bilingual as ‘Inspector Swamy’ in Adivi Sesh’s #DACOIT.”
However, it remains unclear whether he will be playing the primary villain or a pivotal supporting role in the film.
Kashyap’s foray into South cinema is not just an experiment but a strategic career move, as he continues to choose impactful and unconventional roles. Recently, he even held a special screening of his film Kennedy (starring Sunny Leone) at Rama Naidu Studios in Hyderabad. With his growing presence in the South, it will be interesting to see if he releases Kennedy in Telugu or even directs a straight Telugu film in the future.
Coming back to Dacoit, the film is directed by Shaniel Deo, with Mrunal Thakur playing the female lead. With Kashyap’s entry into Telugu cinema, fans can look forward to more intense performances from him in the coming days.
