Pushpa 2 Opens Steady in Japan, Can It Match RRR’s Run?

Allu Arjun’s big-budget blockbuster Pushpa 2 has opened on a positive note at the Japanese box office and is gradually generating curiosity among moviegoers there. In its first two weeks, the action drama recorded close to 17,000 footfalls and collected approximately ¥105 million, translating to about ₹6.1 crore. For an Indian film in the Japanese market, this is a respectable and encouraging start.
These figures highlight the steadily expanding footprint of Telugu cinema in overseas territories. However, comparisons are inevitable. When SS Rajamouli’s RRR released in Japan, it amassed around ¥140 million within its first two weeks—a benchmark that no Telugu film has managed to surpass so far.
The real magic of RRR unfolded later, as the film benefited from extraordinary word-of-mouth. It went on to enjoy an impressive theatrical run of nearly 30 weeks in Japan, ultimately grossing close to ₹120 crore over its lifetime. The big question now is whether Pushpa 2 can replicate a similar trajectory.
Much will depend on audience reception, repeat viewings, and how deeply the film resonates with Japanese viewers. If the positive buzz continues to grow, Pushpa 2 could also secure a steady and extended run. Otherwise, its journey in Japan may taper off sooner than expected. All eyes are now on how the film performs in the coming weeks.
