The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a grand reward for Telugu cricketer N. Shree Charani, who was part of the Indian women’s team that clinched the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday declared a cash prize of ₹2.5 crore, a Group-1 government job, and a 1,000 square yard house site in Kadapa for the 21-year-old cricketer. The announcement came after Shree Charani met the Chief Minister upon her return from Delhi.
During their interaction, CM Naidu congratulated the young spinner, appreciating her stellar contribution to India’s World Cup victory. “By winning the World Cup, you have shown the strength of Indian women and become an inspiration for the next generation of athletes,” he said.
Shree Charani expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and Minister Nara Lokesh for their encouragement. She also presented a Team India jersey autographed by the players to CM Naidu as a token of gratitude.
On social media, CM Naidu shared a photo with the caption: “Selfie with the spinner who made India a winner.” Nara Lokesh, who received Shree Charani and former India captain Mithali Raj at the CM’s residence, said her success symbolizes “the strength and spirit of Indian women.”
Earlier, the cricketer was given a grand welcome at Gannavaram Airport by Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) officials, ministers, and sports authorities.
A native of Yerramala Palle village in Kadapa district, Shree Charani made her international debut earlier this year. She took 14 wickets in the World Cup, including a crucial LBW dismissal of Anneke Bosch in the final against South Africa and two key wickets against Australia in the semifinal.
Trained under her uncle Kishore Kumar Reddy, a part-time cricketer at the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Station, Shree Charani’s journey from a small village to the global stage stands as a testament to perseverance, discipline, and determination.
