AP High Court gives another blow to Jagan Government, rejects GO

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has once again rejected a GO issued by the Andhra Pradesh Government, with respect to the State Security Commission, for not including Opposition Leader Chandrababu Naidu’s name in it.

The court heard the arguments of both the sides, and then rejected the GO, saying that it was in gross violation of the norms laid down by the Supreme Court. The HC has asked the government to once again reissue the GO, after including Naidu’s name in it.

The HC also gave the government a time of one month to submit the new GO, with the opposition leader’s name in it, and that is when the next hearing of the case will be taken up by the HC.

The SSCs have been made compulsory in all the states by the Supreme Court, to make sure that the Police are doing their duty in an unbiased and justified manner. For this purpose, the SC also made it compulsory to include the name of the opposition leader in these GOs, so that there is proper scrutiny, which would enable the proper functioning of the Police department.

Despite the Supreme Court’s clear mandate, the Jagan government has avoided the name of Chandrababu Naidu. According to the Supreme Court mandate, the GO is to consist the names of Chief Minister or Home Minister as Chairperson, DGP as ex officio secretary, Opposition Leader, Chief Secretary, a retired judge nominated by the Chief Justice of High Court, and up to five non-political independent members.
