Arnab Goswami arrested by Maharashtra Police

Republic TV owner Arnab Goswami’s house was raided by the Maharashtra Police’s Raigad Unit during the early hours of Wednesday. He has been arrested by them in the abetments of a suicide, that took place in 2018.

This case had been closed off in 2018, and has now been reopened again, after the daughter of the victim, Adnya Naik, ordered a fresh complaint. Maharashtra Home Minister, Anil Deshmukh, in May this year, had said that the case would soon be reopened following Adnya complaint.

In 2018, an architect, Anvay Naik, and his mother committed suicide after Goswami’s Republic TV did not allegedly pay back their dues to the mother and son. In her complaint, Adnya is also said to have stated that the Alibaug police had not investigated the case in 2018, which was one of the reasons for the suicide of her father and grandmother.

At Goswami’s home, the Police is said to have taken him despite the protests of his family and colleagues, who rushed to the site to try and help. Later, speaking from one of the vehicles, Arnab said that he was assaulted, even as his colleagues tried to seek justice from the Supreme Court and High Court.

Republic TV slammed the way Arnab was handled by the Police, and heavily criticised the Police handling the editor of a top channel. Republic TV has also said that Arnab was not allowed to drink water for 20-30 minutes.
