Naga Vamsi Bounces Back with Lokah Success
Naga Vamsi is one of the few Telugu producers who openly shares his thoughts about his films. Over the years, his confidence often gave audiences a sense of assurance, though not every release worked in his favor.
Recently, he faced setbacks with two films. Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom, produced by him, underperformed at the box office. Similarly, War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR and distributed by him in the Telugu states, failed to meet expectations. During the pre-release event of War 2, Vamsi commented that Telugu box office openings should surpass Hindi openings—a statement that drew backlash from NTR fans.
However, Vamsi has now bounced back with success. Lokah Part 1: Chandra, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan and produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, was released in Telugu by Sithara Entertainments. The film opened to strong collections, crossing ₹100 crore worldwide in the first week. The Telugu version is also performing well, showing growth in the second weekend. To celebrate, Vamsi hosted a success meet in Hyderabad, inviting Dulquer and the film’s team.
At the event, Vamsi shared, “When I watched the glimpse of the film, I immediately told Dulquer sir’s team that I would distribute it. Today, we are seeing the results.” He praised Dulquer for completing the film on a budget of around ₹30 crore, which is significant for a female-oriented Malayalam film. He also jokingly addressed Telugu directors Naga Ashwin and Venky Atluri, saying, “You don’t know, sir, how much we spent on the bank set for Lucky Baskhar.”
Concluding his speech, Vamsi said, “Lokah is a film that should be watched in theatres. Now that it is released, I can confidently ask everyone to enjoy it on the big screen.” This statement caught attention because, during War 2, he had mentioned he would never ask audiences to watch his films again if they failed to meet expectations.
