For several years, Karan Johar, one of the most popular Bollywood filmmakers, was under constant scrutiny about his sexual orientation. This ‘yet a bachelor’ director is often referred to as a gay, which was also cryptically hinted by the director in some of his talk shows and interviews.
But now, for the first time, Karan openly talked about his sexual orientation, how he was bullied in his childhood over his effeminacy and how he spent sleepless nights over the issue. Speaking at the Jaipur Literature Festival while he talked about his biography “An unsuitable Boy”.
“I was effeminate as a child and I used to have sleepless nights over the fact that I am different from other children. I was called ‘Pansy’ even though I hated it,” said Karan.
The Baahubali’s Hindi producer is also proud of his films like Kal Ho Na Ho and Dostana, in which he discussed the issue in the mainstream cinema. “Now there are so many films on LGBT and I am proud that I started it,” said Karan. Needless to say, Karan’s revelations will give a huge support to the LGBT community in the country.
