Foreign visitors to Bali are now required to carry their passports and stay permits at all times when leaving their accommodation, as immigration authorities intensify efforts to curb visa violations.
The Bali Regional Immigration Patrol Task Force — comprising 100 officers — has been deployed to monitor compliance across popular tourist hubs including Canggu, Seminyak, Kerobokan, Sanur, Benoa, Uluwatu, Bingin, Mertasari, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Ubud, and Legian. Indonesia’s Minister for Immigration, Agus Andrianto, confirmed the launch of the task force in early August.
Recent footage from the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office showed uniformed officers conducting random document checks in Nusa Dua, equipped with body cameras and patrol vehicles. While several tourists admitted to leaving passports at their hotels, no fines were issued during the initial inspections. Authorities emphasized that these measures aim to ensure all foreign nationals comply with immigration regulations.
Officials have also indicated that future checks may extend to verifying payment of Bali’s Tourism Tax Levy, though enforcement currently remains under the provincial Tourism Task Force.
The move underscores Bali’s stricter stance on immigration compliance as the island continues to experience an influx of international travelers.
